Jacob Donoghue
Volunteer Mentor, serving in a secondary school in Birmingham, City Year UK

A little about you: I have a strong interest in Film, Music and photography. As well as rock climbing and fitness. If I had to describe myself in 3 words, I would describe myself as Kind, Caring and Creative.

What do you do in your role at CYUK: My role at City Year is a VM (Volunteer Mentor), where I coach and mentor students, providing them with in-class support as well as one on one mentoring sessions, where we discuss setting goals and how to achieve them. Currently, I am working with year 11s, therefore my role mainly consists of helping them prepare for exams, I do this by using various revision techniques and keeping students calm during the stressful exam period. Also, within my role, I help the year 11s decide what they want to study at college and provide support with any future goals.

Why did you apply to do a year placement at CYUK: I applied to City Year as I wanted to support those who are too scared to ask for help.

What would you like to do as a future career: As a future career I have not yet decided what it is I want to do, however, what I do know is that it is my mission to help those with struggles and support them.
