Pick Up The Mic recently hosted our annual community catch-up to celebrate five years as well as bring people from the creative and STEM industries together to offer collaboration and advice. So here is how you can help, receive help from your community and play a key role in helping smaller businesses and freelancers succeed.

As smaller creators, community is one of the most important ways we can help support one another. During our outreach event, participants offered advice to one another, discussing some of the hardest parts of not only their business lives but their personal lives. For working in the creative industry, often they are intertwined. It was amazing to see so many creatives supporting one another's personal and career growth. And these things make a big impact. In a career where it is easy to feel alone in a sea of many, knowing that there are people who have your back and want to help you succeed is such a powerful motivator.

During the event many creators helped fill out our collaboration board, stating what they both want and need in their professional lives, allowing them to find others with the exact knowledge that they need to help their business grow. And these collaborations are never only one way, we all have something to offer. Collaboration is one of the key elements to success, and building a community that is eager to create something amazing through supporting one another is one of the things we are vastly proud of.

Together, everyone founded and wrote down their goals for the year, sticking them on a board so everyone could hold themselves accountable as well as maybe even help them find new opportunities to achieve. It was great to meet such a range of people and hear the goals they each had for the coming years. I know I felt so inspired listening to the paths everyone had taken to get there and their big aspirations for the future.

And as always, bringing the community together was just another reminder of how important it is for people to support one another. The creative industry is dominated by big companies and it is incredibly hard for talented artists to get recognised within so it is crucial that we have one another to share the knowledge we've gained over years of mistakes and successes.

If you want to share your story, sign up to our LinkedIn newsletter to hear about upcoming events as well as follow our page! And thank you to everyone that attended.
