Barts and The London Women in Healthcare Society (BL WIH) is a student-led society that is part of the Barts and The London Students’ Association at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry (BLSMD), Queen Mary University of London.

BL WIH was reinstated in 2020 by a group of students who sought to widen opportunities for women in the healthcare industry. The aim of the society is to not only showcase the valuable contributions of women within healthcare through networking events, talks, discussions, and outreach programmes, but also to explore the current issues that women in healthcare face. Since our reinstatement, we have grown immensely. At the end of the 2020/2021 academic year, we had over 70+ members, making us one of the largest and fastest-growing academic societies at Barts.

With a committee comprising over 30 students, we run regular weekly and monthly events. This includes a mentorship programme, journal clubs, book clubs, social events, academic events with guest speakers, outreach events within the greater East London community, and an annual conference at the end of the academic year. In the 2021/2022 academic year, we plan to continue all of these activities again in addition to various new society events that we will host this year.
