Jemmar Samuels is a campaigner and writer.
She is the co-founder and co-organiser of the award-winning Halo Code campaign, which works towards a future free from afro-hair discrimination. Jemmar is also the founder of Collective Punishment, a campaign focused on raising awareness of and addressing the impact of parental imprisonment on families—particularly children—in the UK. She is a 2019 Diana Award recipient for her years of youth activism.
As a writer, Jemmar has contributed to gal-dem, Black Ballad, and LAPP The Brand, primarily writing personal essays that embody the belief that "the personal is political."
Jemmar also has credits in documentary filmmaking, having contributed to four documentaries. One of these, featuring her story, won a 2018 Children’s BAFTA and a 2020 Little Wings Festival Award.
