Learn more about Wuraola Ogunmowo - The Afroniche Society

Wura Ogunmowo is a multidisciplinary artist with a background in Illustration and a passion for visual storytelling that drives social impact. She first gained recognition for her standout project exploring mental health stigma in African communities, which earned her the 'ADP One to Watch' award. Over the years, she has worked on a range of creative projects, developing visual assets for music cover art, supporting young African writers, and managing creative outputs for a charity dedicated to ending FGM/C and violence against women and girls.
Wura currently works in equality and diversity, helping to bridge gaps for marginalised communities across industries and academic spaces. She is committed to amplifying Black voices, improving representation, and creating opportunities through inclusive and accessible design.
In 2023, she founded The Afroniche Society, a platform created to spotlight African creativity and challenge the lack of inspiration and support for the arts in African educational systems. Her goal is to bring together artists, innovators, and cultural enthusiasts from across the continent and the diaspora, offering a collaborative space that nurtures talent and shares authentic narratives. She has led and organised art events in spaces like Soho House and USTWO Studios, curating environments where African art, culture, and conversation can thrive. Through The AfroNiche Society, she continues to document and support the journeys of African creatives in meaningful and impactful ways.
